Live Music: Semiahmoo Strings Concert – April 15

We are pleased to announce that one of our favourite guests soloists, baritone Alexander Dobson, is returning to perform “Sublime Music for Voice and Strings,” on Tuesday, April 15th, 7:30pm, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2350-148th St., Surrey.
Alex will lend his splendid baritone voice and artistry to some of the finest songs by Schubert, Brahms, and Fauré, as well as celebrated arias from Carmen, The Barber of Seville, and Don Pasquale.
The Strings will take star turns of their own in Rossini’s sparkling Sonata no. 3 for Strings, and Bruch’s poignant Kol Nidrei, featuring our graduating principal cellist, Bryan Lin, as soloist.
Tickets are $18.00 for adults, and $10.00 for students/seniors. You may reserve tickets by calling Harold and Carla Birston at (604) 538-1460. Reserved tickets will be held at the door until 7:15 pm, the night of the concert, and you may pay for them at the door. Tickets will be available at Tapestry Music after Friday, March 21st

Live Music: White Rock Chamber Music Concert – April 12

White Rock Chamber Music is back at Crescent Gardens Retirement Community, 1222 King George Blvd. on Sat. April 12, at 7:30 pm.

Admission is a suggested $5.00 donation with proceeds going to Peninsula Arts Foundation for music Scholarships awarded annually to students of the Semiahmoo Peninsula.  Please come and support this worthy cause and enjoy an evening of wonderful music.

We will begin the programme with 2 young harp students of Miya Otake : Aliyah Unger and Ida Yang.  Interspersed for the rest of the evening will be Anna Theodosakis – soprano, accompanied by Eva Hodge;  Margaret Chandler -flute with Marion Postgate – piano;  Masako Moody – piano,  and the Vancouver Ocarina Ensemble.

Live Music:  Semiahmoo Strings Concert  – January 30

Semiahmoo Strings’ next concert will take place on Thursday, January 30th, 7:30 pm, at the Wheelhouse Theatre (Earl Marriott Secondary School,15751 16th Ave., Surrey). The orchestra will perform a new string orchestration of Gustav Holst’s brilliant suite, The Planets, while images of the solar system are projected on the big screen. The members of the orchestra are spreading their artistic wings, and creating their own films, using High Definition NASA images and video, that will synchronize with Holst’s score. The result promises to be a feast for the senses!

Grieg’s Holberg Suite, and some great movie music from the Demisemiahmoo Strings will round out the program.

Tickets are $16.00 for adults, and $8.00 for students/seniors. You may reserve tickets by simply replying to this email, or by calling Harold and Carla Birston at (604) 538-1460. Reserved tickets will be held at the door until 7:15 pm, the night of the concert, and you may pay for them at the door. Tickets will be available at Tapestry Music, after Wednesday, January 8th.
